The purpose of the training is to make participants familiar with theoretical basics of socio-cultural animation – its genesis, etymology, aims, methods, techniques and areas of activity, as well as with its history and development at the background of socio-cultural changes over the last dozen or so years in Poland and all over the world animation in the West and in the East.

Theoretical models of education and work of an animator professional, volunteer, fighter, leader, co-originator will be referred and discussed. Some reflection will be devoted to the issue: Animation – aiming at emancipation, liberation, in service of ideology, attitude or method? Animation – chances to develop and threats? Animation – the present and the future.


Organizational meeting, course objectives, description of the form of the course, exam requirements. Planning class topics with consideration of students’ areas of interests. Etymology, socio-cultural conditions, key events and processes.

World and Polish precursors.

Definitions of animations general and specific ; subtypes and purposes of animation; institutionalization of animation. Janlowski Animator – a role, a profession or a mission? Animators’ activities – types and models. Techniques, methods and means of group animation.

PASK-The basics of knowledge on socio-cultural animation

What are the advantages of working in a group? Types of animation institutions. Institutions supporting and initiating animation projects.
